FIBROID FACTS

Uterine fibroids are the most common tumours in women. These noncancerous (benign) growths typically appear during the childbearing years . More specifically, fibroids are muscular tumors that grow in the wall of the uterus (womb). Another medical term for fibroids is leiomyoma or just "myoma" and fibroids can grow as a single tumour, or there can be many of them in the uterus. They can be as small as an apple seed or as big as a grapefruit and even larger. While fibroids are not linked to an increased risk of uterine cancer, they can lead to very debilitating pain, suffering and complications.
